NCO Financial Systems agents call me every day in the night but not after 9pm. They do not speak or leave messages but hang up every time. They sent me a letter in July last year. They are trying to collect an amount of $653.55 on a Direct TV bill. But this bill is disputed and I want to inform them the same. This account is in dispute for one year and I have nothing to pay.

I am being harassed continuously by a from NCO Financial Systems. He often calls me, uses abusive language, and demands a paper check for debt payment. Sometimes he calls continuously and once it was more than 25 times in an hour. I have already paid a debt though it was too high and have one more to pay. I will complete the payment shortly but I am terrified because I have been hearing many things about NCO Financial Systems harassment lately. It gets terrifying and am having sleepless nights.

NCO collection agents seem to be thoroughly trained in making consumers commit to payment. They play all gimmicks to put words into your mouth. Debt collectors from NCO have been calling me for the last six months for a debt less than $500.00 on Capital One card and medical bills. They call on my home phone and cell number. Despite telling them repeatedly informed that I would pay at some later day but they allege that I mentioned a particular date to repay. This is not true because I never gave any particular date to pay as I do not have a job. I only mentioned that I would definitely pay but not now

I have been reading so many reports about NCO Financial Systems. NCO Financial Systems collectors harass and news about them is spread far and wide. Many innocent consumers are caught unawares by calls from NCO agents. A very close friend of mine told me about one such incident, who has documented the entire history of the calls, messages, how he sued the collectors and finally how he won the legal battle. NCO collectors called my friend as many as six times a day and abused him. He repeatedly requested the collectors to validate the debt but they never validated his debt. My friend sent Cease and desist letter also but to no avail. After many requests when NCO did not give up harassing, my friend contacted an attorney who took care of the legal issues. My friend has all the papers and other communication that went on between him and NCO collectors which he used in court to win the case.

I was contacted by NCO Financial Systems debt collectors who claim that I owe money to them. I clearly told them that I did not have any cerdit card or any other debts. My card payments have always been on time. I sent a letter by certified mail asking them to send me proof of my debt and told them not to contact me over the phone anymore. Even after this they contacted me. What are my rights in this situation? I would like someone to sugegst how I can sue them.

Anthony Lee

16. April 2011, 10:30

When a debt collector calls me, i welcome them, because when you know your rights, they are no longer a threat, actually it could be quite lucrative. Like the lady above: Donna Wright, they called her 25 times in a month. If they called her home phone at 500.00 per call = $12,500.00. If they called on her cell phone it's 25 x 1,500.00= $37,500. It's called the TCPA-Telephonic Consumers Practices Act. If anyone needs more info go to: yourremedyisinthelaw.com check out Micheal Mirras on Weds.

My friend has been living in PA for the last 20 years. He suddenly started getting calls from NCO Financial Systems identifying as a debt collection agency. There is a different person every-time calling and demanding a payment of $6000.00. The debt collectors who call have offered him deals to close the debt account. They have asked him to pay as low as $600.00. to close. However, my friend refused to close and has pressed legal action. My friend who has never lived in Houston, Texas leave alone visiting, is getting calls from that state for debts incurred in that state. What I fail to understand is how these debt collection agencies end up in such a mix up. I am sure my friend will not pay up a single penny nor will he allow NCO to go Scot free but it's the torment his old mother is going through due to the calls at all hours. She stays alone at home and takes calls during the day.

Anthony Lee,
The FDCPA clearly states that a debt collector isn't supposed to call you for a debt that you do not owe. If they cannot show you the proof of the debt, you can send them a cease and desist letter.According to the law they SHOULD stop calling you. If there's still no use, record their calls next time and specify to them that you have contacted your state attorney and are suing them.

I am receiving calls from NCO out of the blue on a debt incurred in 1997 in New York (I now live in Florida). Old phone bill that my roommates never made good on and I was on the bill. BUT...NOW they are contacting me when they had 14 years to do so? What are my rights here? Is there a statute of limitations in New York state? Anyone know? (The bill is $600.)

Staci

2. August 2011, 20:37

1997??I'd ask you to be alert as NCO has gained the reputation for the most malicious debt collecting agency. Well, Staci, the statute of limitations in New York is 6 years for debt collections, and that in Florida is 4 years. However, that means they cannot sue/take action after the 6 years are up,but you'd still owe the debt, so they can continue to contact you to in an effort to make you pay.
If you do not want to be contacted about the very old debts, you can write a cease and desist letter to stop them.Make sure you mention in the letter that the statute of limitations on your debt has expired.
PS;If you are dealing with a very old* debt, admitting that you owe it to them, you'd risk by resetting the statute of limitations. Please be cautious.

I had a dispute with unemployment and had 3 hearings with unemployment. All the hearings were found in my favor. But unfortunatly they had turned me over to NCO while all this was going on. I contacted unemployent and they stated they contacted NCO months ago that I did not owe any money to NCO. Months later they are still telling me I owe this money! I am so upset about this. They do not call me but I am still on their books as owing over $3,000!!! What can I do?

Romalue

8. August 2011, 05:46

After a gap, most of the times, the credit is sold to third party collection agencies. Since, the hearings are already in your favor, you'd be having a strong hold. Obtain knowledge on the statute of limitations in your state and properly claim it.If it has expired, NCO cannot collect any money from you. Also, they'd have to provide sufficient documentation about the debt you owe.Good Luck!

Michelle

9. August 2011, 05:08

maybe instead of spending time bitching on here you shit bags could get a job and pay your bills. if you owe money dont you think you deserve to deal with phone calls about it? how about if you dont have the money to spend dont spend it!

joe

9. August 2011, 11:40

Oh yeah? So, if you want food you wouldn't spend money? Its the same with everybody. Most of the times, its out of necessity, people would be in debt. When they overspend and do not pay back, then the problem arises. Anyway, if you are up to date with debts, you don't need to give us a hard time here.Did you even read what these posts are about? People who are genuinely facing debt harassment are venting it out. You most certainly are from that NCO nasty systems, aren't you?

Andrew

10. August 2011, 05:10

if somebody owed you money i bet you would want it back, right? if you owe the money then deal with the calls or pay your debt and the calls would stop. everyone on here is so quick to say im not paying because im being harassed. thats the problem with most americans, theres no financial responsibility, spend, spend then when you cant pay cry harassment. that type of mantality hurts everyone. in case you dont know what brought on the recession ill fill you in, it was people that borrowed way more then they could ever afford to pay back. and no i do not work for NCO

joe

10. August 2011, 20:18

Dealing with calls is different dont you think?.If somebody owed me money, I would first check if I'm asking the person concerned. So, would everybody-This, the collectors don't do/don't believe. Also, when you expect to recover your money, would you or would you not give out a proof of it?This is exactly where harassment comes into terms.Spending and not paying-thats not the issue.People who do not pay up their debts need to be acted upon. But, what about those who are repeatedly bent upon even though they've payed up or for that matter yelled and abused for no reason. This is just whats happening, and those issues need to be addressed."I'm not paying because I'm being harassed" thats not the point and that truly is questionable if said. But, what about those who've payed up/are not that person etc? There are umpteen cases as such, not only in America. They are pounded with calls, given pseudonyms, yelled at, sued for mortgage in the final payment, credit frauds.....THESE are what constitutes debt harassment.

Andrew

15. August 2011, 02:27

I'm the victim of an identity theft.Case in point.I've never ever dealt with such an awful and rude person in my life-from NCO.
I've repeatedly tried to explain. It just fell on deaf ears. I would have sorted it better if not for the way I was treated.
I don't care if I get summons.I'll be more than happy to face them. Its not my debt. They know it & I know it.

STOP CALLING MEEEE!!!

YOU ARE THE DEVIL

22. August 2011, 03:14

When I was going to search for nco, most of the results shown were scam, complaints or something else.Says a lot doesnt it? I'm just out of college and recently took a credit card. I just about leased out an apartment. Thanks to nco, I wont be getting it, I'll also be canceling my card.Jerks.

Terrence

29. August 2011, 11:14

I've been dealing with nco a couple of months ago too.I first got this message "This is NCO Financial Services, a debt collection company. Federal law requires us to notify you this is a debt collection company in an attempt to collect a debt. Any information obtained will be used for that purpose. Please call (person's name) at (phone number given) between the hours of (whatever).
They were calling regarding a $135 odd owed to sprint.I told them I never owned a sprint mobile(no frankly, i never did). The only link i can think of is a few of us wrote down our names for subscription, but never actually bought it.
So, nco was calling me at least 10 times a day, I argued with the supervisor an hour straight asking for proof of my debt. All he wanted was me to authorize a payment and then within 3 days i would receive a documentation of my debt. Why would I do that when I don't owe it?Whatever!
When the calls increased to 15 times, I even told them I'll talk directly to sprint, and I would get a response "You must pay this money to us, not sprint-sprint is no longer involved".It was completely insane.
But these bright people never stopped.I sent a letter to their address asking them to stop calling. But, of course calls didn't stop three weeks after.I finally changed my number and haven't heard anything since.Pity the next in line.

I'm done dealing with this "agency".I had an old account with chase. It was then handed over to nco about an year ago. I was promptly making payments to these guys until two months ago my payment was done and my "file" was mysteriously transfered to a different agent, who I can best describe as awful. I'm getting repeat automated calls which I see no point to?when I try to reach him its a dead end.

My debt is payed and Im still getting the same voice mails and automated messages. Nobody from that address is getting another dime from me.This is a hoax.Watch out guys.

Report NCO!

6. September 2011, 14:53

I am currently on the phone and have been on hold waiting for a representative for almost 41 minutes now! I hate that the automated message when I received the call didn't even say who it was for. Now I am wasting my time to find out who it is for and what this is about. I love yelling at people for this stuff. I get calls constantly from all kinds of companies asking for people that aren't anyone I know and I have said to stop calling and remove my number and it never works. I will be reporting everyone if they don't stop calling. I don't owe any debt!

19. September 2011, 06:10

the Nco has sent me numeris bills about paypal debt and all the amounts are different. theres one for $930.84, $37.50, $243.00. i am only 16 and dont even have a paypal account. my mom is getting mad and is wondering if they will send the bills to my family members. please get back to me on how to make them clue in that it isnt my debt. even tho all the info on the bills are legit. thanks.

tyler m

20. September 2011, 21:10

As a minor you cannot legally enter into a contract. They also cannot send the bills to your family members(A debt collector cannot discuss debt with a third party). As per Federal law,(805(d)) a debt collector can only contact a parent or guardian (even if the debt is yours). Clearly, the debt is not yours, could it be any of your family member's?Please check thoroughly if it is.Also if your info on the bills is legitimate it could be a case of identity theft.

If they in anyway harass you or threaten you, please inform the same to your parents and let them handle it. In further calls, a few ways of letting them know it isn't your debt:
Your Mom can directly tell them its not your debt/or hers and ask them to stop contacting you. They should stop when you ask not to call, but of course when its NCO they wont.

So, either the debt can be disputed, or cease and desist can be sent. But disputing comes to forth when you have doubts about the debt. But, here you don't even own a paypal account, so a cease and desist can help. Please send it via certified mail, requesting return receipt, do not give out any personal info and clearly mention that the debt is not yours.

I would suggest consulting an attorney regarding the letter as well. Not hire, just consult, (many do it for free)-they can give you a coherent idea as to how to proceed. "You" in all the sentences would be your parent.Be alert when dealing with NCO.

28. September 2011, 03:32

I do not have any nice things to say about NCO and I think its pretty much rational I dont. From what I went through and what I read by far its the worst company ever.
I had a school loan on which I was making payments well every month-not full but settled. Then out the blue they decided to return my online checks and within a month I get calls from NCO.Not normal calls, the extreme-abusive-hang up-calling 14 times a day calls. I was ready to make payments with written agreements cos I already had freaking experiences. They wouldnt accept a thing.I only earn meagre hourly wages and whatever I earn I have no problem paying. They want to garnish those now. I asked to speak to the Manager finally which Im never allowed to after trying for a number of times. An added woe is the added interest.
After going through so much trouble theres no way Im gonna budge. Give me a written agreement Ill gladly pay. Bring it on.

5. October 2011, 10:08

I have a question. Here's what happened.I got a letter from NCO Financial stating they would accept a lesser amount in lump sum as settlement as opposed to the original debt,They told me they were eliminating a part of the amount. My first mistake. It did sound like a good deal. But after reading all the negative stories about nco im in two minds.Just dont know what to do about this.My original debt is with chase. Right before they told me they were going to turn my debt over to a collection agency. That was when I was already making payments to chase. Now that they have Im terrified to send money to nco. Not that I dont want to, just that I dont trust nco enough to keep complete faith in my debts i'd rather pay chase directly. The letter also asks me to call them before making a payment to confirm the deal or the offer will expire.
I worry that if i call they'l have my number and bug me unending like everyone else.I want to pay off this debt as quickly as possible,But dealing with nco is giving me jitters. But how do I know if these are the people I should pay.Is there any other way to handle this?may be call my credit company directly?Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

7. October 2011, 00:32

I found out a way to get rid of the calls!!!!
pay your stuff on time. do not let it get to collections and you'll never deal with it.

in other words pay your shit or eal with it.
if its not you or you dont owe.... then prove yourself and be done with it.

Jacel

8. October 2011, 21:46

Yeah right. So you are saying if I owe a debt a collector can use any kind of terms?Do you realise why the FDCPA came out?To protect consumers from people with ideas like yours.

"if its not you or you dont owe.... then prove yourself and be done with it."
Nobody's letting it go that way. Even after humongous attempts its the same tactics. I've been called by NCO for a year straight and its a jeffrey they are looking for.No matter what I do or say the calls continue with intermittent breaks.I even sent a cease and desist. But they started calling after two month's gap from july.Im already on my way on filing a suit. If its like this for me imagine for people who do owe.

Saying "you deserve to be treated this way because you didnt pay up" is not justified.

Yeah Right

9. October 2011, 05:45

ok. people with ideas like mine are ppl that know spending limits. and pay back. if you get to collections that means you never paid the original creditor that gave you service.
obviously when you signed a contract you were not hidding from any one or complaining about calls correct?? well do not get to collections. pay your stuff and be done with it. people exagerate about the calls. no company is willing to break the FDCPA to later get in trouble. think about it.

Jacel

9. October 2011, 05:47

also keep in mind that calls might continue because maybe there are other collections looking for the same person too. just sayin. plain and simple. pay on time. dont hide from ppl and be honest. you wont get botther

Jacel

13. October 2011, 20:45

No people with ideas like yours are people who come on to forums like these and haunt people. If you are so good with your spending limits good for you, keep moving. There are others who are in debt due to the hard hitting economy/loss of jobs/sometimes even poverty. Im not saying dont repay debts, but most people here have a problem with the harassment for real. You may not have faced it, many do. Some many exaggerate some dont. Theres an example. Theres an 86 year old neighbour of mine whoz son passed away. He owed a debt on a chase card. This lady tried to pay all the debt he owed by selling off her collectibles(she was a dealer). They gave her so much of a hard time. After taking three fourth of her payment, the debt was sold to another agency and it was back to square one. Shez no more now, but just saying. How do you deal with things like these? You think about it.

Yeah Right

16. October 2011, 14:31

I agree with Yeah Right, Jacel doesn't know what he/she is talking about. I have told NCO over and over and over again that they are calling the wrong person and still they continue to call my home, cell, and now work. So I have proven myself time and again and it is always NCO calling. I do pay on time, I am honest, and I'm still getting harassed by NCO.

ncohater

20. October 2011, 06:51

They've called my cell too!Since when is a collection agency allowed to call cell phone?I though it was only the home lines?I told them calmly to call on my land line as I was at work and the freaks yelled. I had to hang up at least 7 times.

DM

25. October 2011, 12:29

Jacel, guy, do you work for NCO?

NCO=Spam

26. October 2011, 02:29

I paid my settlement on an old HSBC account with NCO in 2008. I made timely payments to them via auto withdrawl from my checking account. I only defaulted with HSBC due to a nasty divorce...not an irresponsibility to pay.

Last week, I received a call on my new cell phone saying a new collection agency is trying to recover the amount that was written off. What??

The debt started in 2005...it is now 2011 and this new collection company LVNV funding is trying to collect again. And they put a new entry on my 3 credit reports. I have had clean credit for nearly 3 years.

I'm trying to buy a house and my lender said this new entry may hiccup the entire approval. I'm literally in the middle of underwriting.

NCO verified that I settled but are dragging their feet to get documentation to me and the third party collector. I am so lost...so panic'd and horribly upset.

UGH...

Shell H

31. October 2011, 15:33

Shell H, giving checking account or banking info to collectors is a huge mistake. You never know when it'll be swiped clean. They do not ask permissions and I highly doubt collection agencies to keep their word. There's nor reason why they cannot take most of the payment and still sell the debt off to another agency.See what Im saying?

You've got to get that payed in full letter. Write to them asking for it, via certified mail asking for return reciept. This is the catch in settlements. They dont give written agreements and sell off debts. Also check the statute of limitations in our state.NCO itself is a third party collection agency. LVNV cannot collect from you if its delinquent debt(As long as you do not accept you owe and dont start any payments).

Ericson P

6. November 2011, 19:00

As some have suggested answer the phone when they call but dont say a word. THEY have to pay for the call even though you answered it. Even better leave the dog barking to the receiver/watch television.

Let them pay every dime for every single wrong calls they make.
On an occasion I called them just to make them pay for the call and asked about the weather cos they wont listen any other way.
Nco taking ignorant people for a ride mercilessly. If you talk one-to-one with them know your rights and deal carefully or file complaints or mess with them. Anything. Lets not let them get away with rotten tactics.
Thats all I gotta say!

Phil

18. November 2011, 12:17

There's no need to call it a scam. The only scam here is people like you all here need to pay your bills,You call it harassment we call it a job. Ha! at least we have one.
Hold yourself responsible for your debts not others just because they are calling to collect it.
We follow the FDCPA and as per law can call to collect unless are asked not to in a written form.
Screaming harassment will do nothing. Pay up and get rid of debts.

And FYI its not collectors who met out things, the original creditors themselves ask to do so.

9. December 2011, 15:57

I've started not paying any attention since Im that annoyed with the calls. Apart from weekdays its also early Saturday mornings(7.50 am) and almost over 9pm. Nobody here in my family owes anybody any money. Are these scammers really allowed to call at any time of the day and night? They are really pushing the button when I've to stop everything Im doing only to find NCO on the line. Bah.Oh and also this is for someone who doesnt owe the debt. Im genuinely sympathetic to those of you they are calling for debt.

B Sean

19. December 2011, 21:06

OK I've been getting calls from Nco Financial Systems. In the freaking mornings and believe it when Im in school and say its regarding debt collection which is nonsense. Why the hell will I owe anyone money? They never ever leave a message or anything like that. So why the hell are you guys at NCO calling me?How do I go about stopping the calls?I was told that the do not call list does not work.

Adam Lee Berg

25. December 2011, 02:48

Wow! the reputation nco has is unbelievable.

Whats more is they are still going round. I had been getting calls from them before six months and they stopped for a while after sending a cease and desist. Miracle I know.

I spoke to an individual who would not identify himself. I told him to take my # off their list as I was not the one they were looking for. He said theres no list and he can call as much as he wanted to. I asked to speak to his supervisor. He said that'll be a long wait and stalled more. After being curt I got transferred to Bryan who wouldnt even hear what I was saying and it got no where. So far now Im getting more calls and its ANNNNOYING!Im going to file a complaint.

A guy with an accent asking for me by my middle name which I do not use for business purposes. Because he specified it was for that reason. I have no delinquent debts and keep a check on my credit reports etc. He was trying to convince me that they were affiliated with the Police Dept. I got to know it was for someone else's bill. Im at the edge with these people calling me.

14. January 2012, 09:58

@b collector
I was employed at NCO and you know just as I do that no everyone follows the FDPCA. Yes it is the law but let get real here. It is so true that some collector do get carried away with themselves because at the end of the month is all about the money and what thier pay check will look like. As far as the calling befor 8am and after 9pm that is not true, systems do not come on and the dialer will not dial, only between those times. And as far as you saying that people shouldn't complain well they should because not everyone NCO calls is the correct person. There is a thing called a wrong phone number. And if a person asked for proof just send them the proof.

Pretty classy place this. They called this morning. Actually have been since two weeks for a Mark Andrews P***** . I told her she had the wrong number. There's a Mark Bernas P***** here. Whoever calls always insists on speaking to Mark or Andrews. Weird. She gave me a reference number and phone number to call at. She asked if the guy she was calling for was affiliated to so and so company. I told her again she had the wrong number and asked not to call. This after telling me all the details of his debt.
