I owe Bank of America an amount of $2200.00. I have been paying it off regularly and will complete the payment in an year. However, suddenly I have started getting calls from American Collections Group who claim that Bank of America has retained them to collect the debt with extra charges. When I contacted Bank of America they denied the allegations. I don't want to pay these people but cannot take this harassment any more. Is there a way out of this?

(I know its late to reply, but for anybody reading..)
Have you tried calling them directly and telling not to contact you.Ask them to put you on the do not contact list. While doing so, do not give out any personal details. If they ask anything about the debt you owe tell them nothing except that you are dealing with your company directly and have all the proof. If that doesn't work, send them a cease and desist letter.

This is the format:

Re: Account Number

Dear Debt Collector:

Pursuant to my rights under federal debt collection laws, I am requesting that you cease and desist communication with me, as well as my family and friends, in relation to this and all other alleged debts you claim I owe.

You are hereby notified that if you do not comply with this request, I will immediately file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the [your state here] Attorney General’s office. Civil and criminal claims will be pursued.
Sincerely,

Your Name

Hope this helps!
